What part of The Kelsey’s mission are you proudest to be part of / support?
I’m very proud to support The Kelsey’s focus on disability-inclusive housing by supporting individuals with and without disabilities. Coming from a very diverse community in Oakland and attending a Liberal Arts College, I have seen how different individuals come across different barriers, including language, emotional, cultural, and physical barriers that are embedded in our society; I find it very important and inspiring to support all individuals to live happily and comfortably in a community where their needs are prioritized.
What does it mean to you to be Disability-Forward? Why does it matter?
To me, being Disability-Forward means creating greater access and opportunities for all individuals, especially those with disabilities, to overcome any barriers that life offers. This may include greater access to buildings, such as elevators or ramps, or creating events to share resources and promote a supportive community. Overall being Disability-Forward is important as it ensures everyone can not only overcome the barriers they face in life, but to also thrive in a welcoming and safe environment.
