Gilbert has devoted more than 18 years to the non-profit sector. He will be working remotely from San Antonio, TX, and is joining The Kelsey as the new Senior Finance Manager. He recently held positions as VP of Finance for Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and Controller for the Symphony Society of San Antonio. In these roles, Gilbert led finance, accounting, and HR teams, oversaw budgets, cash flows, grants, financial reporting, and ensured compliance with statutory filings. Previously, he occupied various positions at the YMCA of Greater San Antonio, including Accounting Manager, Financial Quality Assurance Director, and Senior Accountant. During his tenure at the YMCA, he specialized in full-cycle accounting, supervised all accounting functions, managed reconciliations, conducted budget analyses, and coordinated annual audits. Gilbert holds a BBA in Accounting from the University of Texas at San Antonio and is currently pursuing his CPA certification.

In his personal life, Gilbert has been married for 15 years. He has a 27-year-old daughter who currently serves as an NFL cheerleader for the Arizona Cardinals. Additionally, he has two fur babies: an 11-year-old Shih Tzu and a 3-year-old Toy Australian Shepherd.

During his leisure time, Gilbert enjoys playing pickleball and disc golf, and he maintains an active routine of cardio and strength training.

I’m drawn to The Kelsey’s focus on disability-inclusive housing; it’s a crucial and often overlooked aspect of community development. As for myself, I find great pride in supporting The Kelsey’s overarching mission of fostering inclusive communities where everyone, regardless of ability, has the opportunity to thrive. Their commitment to creating spaces that accommodate and celebrate diversity resonates deeply with me. It’s inspiring to be part of an organization that prioritizes inclusivity and works tirelessly to break down barriers to participation and belonging for all individuals.

As an individual with over 18 years of experience in the non-profit sector, my favorite building feature from one of The Kelsey communities would be their innovative approach to accessible design. Specifically, I admire their incorporation of universal design principles throughout their buildings. Universal design ensures that spaces are usable and accessible to people of all ages and abilities, promoting inclusivity and independence. This feature not only aligns with The Kelsey’s mission of creating disability-inclusive housing but also contributes to the long-term sustainability and usability of the community. Additionally, from a financial perspective, investing in universal design can result in cost savings over time by reducing the need for costly retrofits and ensuring that the community remains accessible to all residents.
