Disability and Housing Storytelling Guide

By sharing our stories, we can debunk the dominant, often untrue, narratives about disability and housing and advocate for a better housing future. This guide offers guidance on writing your personal housing story, provides talking points to advocate for disability-forward housing, and gives examples of powerful stories that drive change.

Disability and Housing Storytelling Guide

The Disability & Housing Storytelling Guide is a resource that came out of our 2024 Disability and Housing Narrative Change Cohort. As advocates across the country use their personal stories to push for change, this guide offers tools to help advocates and allies advocate for affordable, accessible, and inclusive housing.

What’s in the guide?

  • Helpful tips and a template for writing your personal housing story
  • Key talking points on disability and housing to strengthen your message
  • Real-world examples of advocates sharing their stories through media, public testimony, and more

We hope this guide helps you craft and share your story, and we invite you to share them with us

The guide was created in partnership with The Kelsey and the 2024 Disability and Housing Narrative Change Cohort. Thank you to the Housing Narrative Lab for supporting us along the way.
