Building Cities for Everyone: Disability-Forward Housing Futures | OSU “Cities for All” Speaker Series

A promotional graphic for a virtual event. Text reads, “Join Us: The Ohio State University’s 2026 Spring Speaker Series: Cities for All. ‘Building Ciities for Everyone: Disability-Forward Housing Futures’ | Friday, March 27th 2026, 12 – 1 p.m. ET, Zoom.” Headshots of Allie Cannington, Managing Director at The Kelsey, and Kyle Seem, Manager of Inclusive Design at The Kelsey, are in circle frames below a headline that reads, “Featuring.” Allie is a white queer person smiling in their manual wheelchair with short brown hair, round glasses, earrings, and a blazer. Kyle, a white, long-haired, red headed female, is pictured in a navy half-sleeved sweater smiling next to a wall. The Kelsey logo is in the lower right corner of the graphic.

Building a disability-forward housing future requires going beyond basic accessibility requirements to create homes and communities that work for everyone. Rather than checking boxes to meet the legal minimum, we should be asking a bigger question: How do we design homes where neighbors with and without disabilities thrive?

Kyle, our Inclusive Design Manager, and Allie, our Managing Director, joined The Ohio State University’s “Cities for All” speaker series to answer this very question. Kyle and Allie gave participants tools for applying disability-forward housing principles to their work, including lessons from the Inclusive Design Standards and actions cities can take to increase the number of affordable, accessible, and inclusive homes.
